Testimonials

“I began watching PBS in the early '70s and was instantly hooked on shows like Masterpiece Theater, The Great American Dream Machine, Monty Python's Flying Circus and others that were unlike the offerings on commercial TV. That uniqueness continues today with programming like Mystery!, Nova, Nature, and Great Performances among others. I have been a member of PBS Western Reserve since its founding. This station not only offers daily programming that my children grew up on, but that my grandchildren have also enjoyed, plus it reaches out to the schools with valuable educational resources. The station also serves the Northeast Ohio/Western Pennsylvania service area with locally produced programs addressing our region's history, communities, arts and culture. Nearly two-thirds of this station's support comes from members and private sources and its ambitious mission is executed by a lean staff of only 24 dedicated professionals. Contributing financially to the work of PBS Western Reserve is not a mere expenditure, but rather an important investment in the life of our community.”

“My son, Ikal, attended the program you hosted at the Kent Library and came home very excited by what he had learned. We own a few snap circuit sets, but for some reason, this was different for him. He likes to create with raw materials so that may be why. Anyway, he brought home an extra kit and incorporated it with a wooden box to make a birthday present for his best friend ... Ikal built the circuit, created a button and painted it. He developed the idea and carried out the project 100% on his own. Needless to say, he was very proud of the finished product. Thank you for hosting and inspiring a new interest.”

“PBS Western Reserve is a wonderful resource for our community and region. I have worked with PBS Western Reserve on multiple occasions now. Director of Educational Services Holly Cartwright and Associate Producer Sophia Gillespie visited Kent Free Library to speak with our Teen Leadership Council, a group created to help teens develop leadership skills and give back to their community, about public media, how it works, and careers in the field. This was an enriching experience for teenagers who are graduating soon and deciding what they want their future to look like, and a very exciting visit for teens interested in media.
Holly also visited to provide an educational session on Circuit Breakers for our Middle School Makers program, a weekly club with STEAM-based activities. It was an engaging, interactive and fun event for middle schoolers.
PBS Western Reserve has worked with the library on multiple other occasions as well, including providing a Luna mascot from LET'S GO LUNA! for an event celebrating the solar eclipse last year. We have used many of their Ohio Learns 360 Camp-in-a-Box resources to develop educational programming for children, and they attended our Touch-A-Truck event last year to the delight of participants.
PBS Western Reserve is an invaluable source of educational content and entertainment for our region.”

“Holly and PBS Western Reserve were a tremendous partnership for my School Age Child Care program here at The Shaw JCC of Akron. Their Camp-in-a-Box program was such a wonderful initiative, and provided countless hours of education and fun for our youth. It is initiatives like this that allow communities like ours to have access to educational experiences that they may not otherwise encounter. Holly and her team at PBS Western Reserve were thorough when implementing the trainings required for the execution of the Camp-in-a-Box curriculum. I was devastated to see this program go, but am so grateful for the many boxes we were able to procure, thanks to PBS Western Reserve.”
