Music From the Western Reserve

Learn about the history of the Music From the Western Reserve. Originally named Music From Stan Hywet, it started at the Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens music room in September of 1983. The music became a destination for patrons to enjoy a concert featuring chamber music, which is an ensemble of musicians performing music together.

Through the years, it expanded with more musicians and more attendees. So, a larger space was needed. In 2002, the last concert was held at Stan Hywet. It then moved to the chapel on the campus of the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, which is when Music From Stan Hywet underwent the name change.

A few years later in 2010, the Music From The Western Reserve moved to its current location at Christ Church Episcopal in Hudson with its first concert featuring the Cleveland Baroque Orchestra.

Now in its 43rd season, more than 300 guests swayed to the music of pianist Theron Brown and vocalist Jaron LeGrair during their September jazz performance showcasing music from George Gershwin, an American composer and pianist, and some of Brown’s original music. It was an awe-inspiring performance where the audience gave a standing ovation a few times around.

Music From the Western Reserve puts on six concerts from September to April. Piano, jazz and baroque music are just a few of the solo and chamber performances during the 2025 and 2026 season. A pre-talk conversation is held before the concert begins, which then following the music is a catered reception where attendees can meet the musicians.
