Simply the Best!

Why do things have to be so complicated? Take watching TV, for example. It used to be that you turned on the set, clicked through a few channels and found something you liked. Now, there are so many options that it can be overwhelming.

PBS Western Reserve makes it easy for you. Every night we offer a variety of excellent programs to enjoy, either through broadcast or the PBS app. Take Sundays — our big night for drama. This month, we have 2 favorites that return and a new one to try out.

Season 2 of “Ridley” begins on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 8 PM. Alex Ridley, a retired detective, is called back to the force as a consultant. Naturally, he’s a little… unique, and his quirks help him solve crimes. Intriguing cases this season include a series of jewelry heists that turn into murder and a shooting at an illegal rave.

Next, we travel back to 1954. A famous actress is killed. There are suspects galore and you know where this is going. Or do you? “Moonflower Murders” is a new MASTERPIECE series where a book about the 1954 murder is the template for a modern kidnapping. The author of this book has been hired to find the culprit and save the victim’s life. It’s a story in a story with lots of great flashbacks, red herrings and so much more. If you liked “Magpie Murders,” this is every bit as good. It starts on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 9 PM.

If you prefer your mysteries a little darker, more brooding and more intense, you’ll love “Van der Valk” on MASTERPIECE. We’re off to Amsterdam, the city of canals, red-light districts and crime. Enter Piet Van der Valk — a cop with a laser-like focus on finding the criminal. Social niceties aren’t his strong suit, but that seems to work for him and for people worldwide who enjoy this drama series.

So, when you’re not interested in scrolling through a gazillion shows, let us pick some for you. Watch great programs day and night on PBS Western Reserve. It’s your membership that makes it all possible, so if you’ve not yet joined, sign up here

Steve Graziano

Steve creates the PBS Western Reserve television schedules. Long before finding great programs for you to watch he was a radio DJ. He and his wife are avid travelers, preferring unusual vacation spots such as Cuba and Budapest and sailing across the Atlantic (on an ocean liner, not a sailboat). Tops on his list of famous people he’s met is Fred Rogers. A close second is Mick Jagger or maybe Elton John. His favorite PBS show is “Sherlock Holmes” with Jeremy Brett. Or with Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s a toss-up, he says. Either way, he loves looking for new and interesting programs to share with you.
