A History to Be Reckoned With

Some Ken Burns films are especially entertaining—COUNTRY MUSIC and BASEBALL, for example. Some, such as JAZZ, are surprisingly nuanced and thoughtful. His latest may very well be his finest.

THE U.S. AND THE HOLOCAUST shows how one of the world’s greatest tragedies came to be, and what we as Americans did and didn’t do to try and stop it. Ken Burns along with Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein used first-person accounts and talked to leading historians to tell a story we’ve never really heard before.

While many in this country ached to help those whom Hitler persecuted, others such as U.S. Sen. Robert Reynolds wanted to “build a wall around the United States so high and so secure” to prevent any refugees from finding safety in our border.

There is much we know about the Holocaust and as you’ll see, so much that we don’t. If you watch no other program on PBS Western Reserve, please take the time to watch this one.

We’ll present THE U.S. AND THE HOLOCAUST this Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at 8 PM each evening.

Only PBS tells stories like this—and we’ve done it for decades. It’s because of the support of good people like you who make it possible. Thank you for your membership. If you haven’t had the time before, please take a moment now and show your support for programs such as these that you can only find on PBS and PBS Western Reserve.
