1971 sees the dawn of a new era, heralding the launch of the Women’s Liberation movement in the UK. Meanwhile, Sister Julienne, Dr. Turner and the Nonnatus House team face serious challenges as more babies are being born in hospital, and a complete reorganization of the National Health Service is on its way.

This season follows the stories of a premature baby kept alive by machines in a high-tech incubator and a mother’s childbirth agony vanishing as she is given a pioneering epidural. Plus, the team handles cases including slavery, carbon monoxide poisoning, male breast cancer, child cruelty and lupus. Throughout it all, the nuns and midwives are there to hold their patients’ hands.

With cast including Jenny Agutter, Judy Parfitt, Helen George, Laura Main, Stephen McGann, Cliff Parisi, Linda Bassett and Georgie Glen.
