The Future of American Politics

“Kids these days.” It was said first by cavemen, I think.

Well, I’d like you to meet a group of students who are bright, smart and will probably be leading our country pretty soon. These are high schoolers who know decisions are made by those who show up. And they’re showing up at mock congressional hearings for a very special competition at our nation's capital. CITIZEN NATION is a new four-part series that showcases the passion and concerns today’s youth have for their country as they debate the big issues facing our nation. This Tuesday, Oct. 8, see why they’re so passionate about our future in “Chasing Victory,” at 9 PM.

While I’m on the topic of special competitions — the big one is coming up. This time, let’s take a look at the men running for the number two position in U.S. government. FRONTLINE profiles J.D. Vance and Tim Walz in their running for Vice President in FRONTLINE, “The VP Choice: Vance vs. Walz.” It may be a largely ceremonial office, but if something happens to their boss, they’ll be in the hot seat immediately. Learn more about the two candidates for Vice President this Tuesday at 10 PM.

All of this is a good reminder of the ways we at PBS Western Reserve keep you up to date with news programs like PBS NEWS HOUR, WASHINGTON WEEK and BBC NEWS — on TV, online and through the PBS app. It’s thorough, it’s thoughtful, and it’s all thanks to your membership. Steve Graziano

Steve creates the PBS Western Reserve television schedules. Long before finding great programs for you to watch he was a radio DJ. He and his wife are avid travelers, preferring unusual vacation spots such as Cuba and Budapest and sailing across the Atlantic (on an ocean liner, not a sailboat). Tops on his list of famous people he’s met is Fred Rogers. A close second is Mick Jagger or maybe Elton John. His favorite PBS show is “Sherlock Holmes” with Jeremy Brett. Or with Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s a toss-up, he says. Either way, he loves looking for new and interesting programs to share with you.
