Music Legends Never Go Out of Style

Lady Gaga and Mick Jagger; George Jones and Tammy Wynette; Elton John

Remember learning Newton’s Laws of Physics back in high school? Neither do I — but one of them may sound familiar: an object in motion tends to stay in motion. Want proof? I give you Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones. He’s 80 years old and is still rocking, twisting and leaping on stage. Keith Richards is also 80 and jamming as hard as ever. This week, PBS Western Reserve shows you the band in true form in the special THE ROLLING STONES: GRRR LIVE! Rock on with “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” “Gimmie Shelter,” “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and a lot more. Bruce Springsteen and other performers you won’t want to miss make guest appearances, too. It’s Sunday at 5 PM on PBS Western Reserve.

If you like your music a little more laid back, join us for COUNTRY’S LEGENDARY DUETS. See George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner, and Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn as they perform the most iconic duets of country music. It’s a pleasant walk down memory lane this Tuesday at 8 PM.

Did you catch the recent Gershwin Prize for Popular Song awarded to Elton John and Bernie Taupin on PBS Western Reserve? It was an incredible tribute to their music. Now you can see the piano man in concert in ELTON JOHN — THE MILLION DOLLAR PIANO. Recorded in Las Vegas and featuring all his biggest hits, including “Rocket Man” and “Tiny Dancer,” this special is one you won’t want to miss. Catch it Friday, June 7, at 8:30 PM on PBS Western Reserve. Oh, and if you missed the Gershwin Prize special in April, it’s on Passport right now as well.

For a nostalgic look at the bands and singers of the 1930s to 1950s, tune in to THE BIG BAND YEARS. You can catch it on Saturday, June 8, at 10 AM; Sunday, June 9, at 9 AM and 6 PM; and Wednesday, June 12, at 2 PM. During the program, learn about a special ticket offer to see Glenn Miller Orchestra live at Ohio Star Theater in Sugarcreek, Ohio, in July. What a swinging good time that will be!

We have so many great music specials throughout the year thanks to the members of PBS Western Reserve. If you haven’t joined thousands of your neighbors, become a member to help make sure we have these shows and many more for years to come.

Steve Graziano

Steve creates the PBS Western Reserve television schedules. Long before finding great programs for you to watch he was a radio DJ. He and his wife are avid travelers, preferring unusual vacation spots such as Cuba and Budapest and sailing across the Atlantic (on an ocean liner, not a sailboat). Tops on his list of famous people he’s met is Fred Rogers. A close second is Mick Jagger or maybe Elton John. His favorite PBS show is “Sherlock Holmes” with Jeremy Brett. Or with Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s a toss-up, he says. Either way, he loves looking for new and interesting programs to share with you.
