LOCAL FOCUS brings two Kent State University student films to broadcast in the special episode, “What Happened to Judy Martins? / Vital Pages.” The episode explores a local cold case and highlights the importance of Ohio’s public libraries.

What Happened to Judy Martins?

Dave O’Brien, a reporter for the Chronicle-Telegram, and siblings Steve Martins and Nancy Baer continue to investigate the 1974 disappearance of Judy Martins, a Kent State University student. After the Kent State University’s police initial investigation and the destruction of the case’s files, her family is left with more questions as they continue to wonder, “What happened to Judy Martins?”

Vital Pages

As the right to read is being challenged and more books are being banned, access to public knowledge is in danger. Vital Pages emphasizes the importance of protecting public libraries to keep the people informed, and the way they have always shown up for their local communities. It also highlights those who are actively fighting to keep the ability to read as an intrinsic right as they spread awareness.
