This program celebrates some of our most important traditions. Nordic folk woodcarver Harley Refsal brings to life the rich history of winter solstice. Clay artist Susan Garson creates fanciful Hanukkah menorahs. George Vanderbilt's opulent turn-of-the-century Christmas is recreated at the Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina. Daring chefs make lavish gingerbread houses for the competition at Grove Park Inn. Navidad is celebrated in San Antonio with religious processions, tamales and Kathleen Trenchard's sparkling luminarias. Garcia Art Glass makes colorful ornaments, and Veronica Castillo creates a traditional Mexican Tree of Life.

This special is a true holiday treat that will fill your senses with warmth, touch your heart and provide your mind with geography and history. Traveling the majestic Danube River as it passes through stunning European landscape, history and culture, CHRISTMAS ON THE DANUBE visits these cities along the Danube, which are particularly spectacular at Christmas.

This program is a celebration of the true spirit of Christmas and features some of the most beautiful choral and instrumental music of the season. Over 250 student musicians participate in ensembles that include the Hope College Orchestra, Chapel Choir and College Chorus.

St. Thomas Christmas: Comfort & Joy
This one-hour holiday special celebrates the Advent and Christmas season, drawing from both familiar traditional carols and innovative contemporary selections. The program premieres a new commissioned original work entitled “Comfort & Joy,” composed by Jocelyn Hagen. The piece features the entire tour de force of ensembles from the University of St. Thomas, including the chamber singers, concert choir, liturgical choir, Donne unite, symphonic wind ensemble, string orchestra, and brass choir.

MY MUSIC presents a special holiday program starring beloved brother-sister recording duo Richard and Karen Carpenter, the most successful American recording act of the 1970s. The all-new program focuses entirely on the Carpenters' perennially popular Christmas music favorites, including "The Christmas Song," "Winter Wonderland" and “White Christmas.”

Crane Candlelight Concert, Homeward Bound for the Holidays
In a concert tradition that began in the 1930s, the Crane Chorus and Crane Symphony Orchestra come together to present a very special holiday concert. The 2019 concert was conducted by Jeffrey Francom and highlights the best songs performed at candlelight from over the past 10 years. Making this year even more special, the Crane Chorus was joined by the Holy Name of Jesus Academy Chorus, a local youth choir, for a few songs.

The Western Front, Christmas, 1914. Out of the violence comes a silence, then a song. A German soldier steps into No Man’s Land singing “Stille Nacht,” thus, beginning an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music and peace. A remarkable true story told in the words of the men who lived it, the new docu-musical All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 relives the moment when Allied and German soldiers laid down their arms to celebrate the holiday together during World War I.
