Families with dreams of escaping the demands of the modern world face the challenge of their lives as they head back more than 100 years to try to make a living in a fishing community at the start of the 20th century.
For one month, four families are exposed to the extremities of the wild waters and unpredictable weather on Llanddwyn, a beautiful, uninhabited tidal island off the coast of Anglesey. THE 1900 ISLAND is the story of everyday survival, struggle, family conflict and a community coming together.
Episode 1
The Davis family of seven, the Powers family of five, a pair of newlyweds and a retired couple venture out in a fierce storm to take possession of their new island home. They must adapt quickly to their new way of life.
Episode 2
As the families enter their second week, the weather finally turns in their favor and the men head out to sea hoping for a successful catch. The women are left with unrelenting domestic chores and the children head to school.
Episode 3
In their third week, the four families are still struggling with the realities of a century-old lifestyle. At the start of the week, the community seems at its most fragile as different priorities and approaches to life start to take shape.
Episode 4
The families face their last days on 1900 Island. But as the outside world comes calling, modern mechanization hits their rural idyll, prices plummet and there is a rude awakening.
